of Fitchburg; 59

FITCHBURG -- Stephen M. Dunbar, 59, of Fitchburg, passed away, Sunday, December 18, 2011 in Leominster Hospital after an illness.

Stephen was born on December 17, 1952 in Medford. He was the son of Thomas A. Dunbar Jr., and the late Rosalie (Cronin) Dunbar. He was self employed in many fields, including sand and gravel, trucking and real estate development. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and babysitter. He was very involved in his grandchildren's lives and enjoyed going to their sporting events. Stephen was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and boating.

Besides his father, Thomas A. Dunbar Jr., of Lunenburg, he leaves his high school sweetheart, Claire (Collins) Dunbar; his children, Melissa Lambert of New Ipswich, NH, Katie Farr of Princeton, Sean Dunbar of Townsend and their spouses; 8 grandchildren, Cole, Skye, Logan, TJ, Sophie, Tyler, Brady, and Hailey; two brothers, Thomas A. Dunbar III of Tyngsboro, Lawrence Dunbar of Townsend; two sisters, Martha Neeven of Export, PA, and Priscilla Cotreau of Lunenburg; nieces and nephews, and his dog, Bud.

He was predeceased by his brother, Chris Dunbar.

DUNBAR -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St, Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday, December 22, in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made in Stephen's name to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Avenue Boston, MA 02130 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
