Thomas Sambito Obituary

Former General Manager for Boucher Construction Corp.

Leominster

Thomas (Tommy) F. Sambito, 78, of Leominster, passed away October 19, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home, after an illness.

Tommy was born August 17, 1943, in Leominster, son of the late Anthony and the late Elizabeth (Flynn) Sambito. Tommy grew up in Leominster and joined the Navy at 17 years old. He served on the USS Eaton and was deployed in January 1961 to the Cuban Bay of Pigs invasion and in 1962 as part of the Cuban Missile Blockade.

When he returned from the Navy, he started his career in the building trades with Daniel D'Onfro & Sons, where he worked many years until the company dissolved. He then was employed by Boucher Construction, Corp as General Manager. He worked there 27 years, retiring in 2018. Tommy became part of the Boucher family; He loved Steve, Janet and the girls. The guys and office staff that he worked for and with had become lifelong friends.

He drove his first motorcycle home from being discharged from the Navy and the rest is history. He was a Harley Davidson rider all of his life. The guys he rode with are to this day his closest friends. Tommy enjoyed many trips with friends and family to Las Vegas, Italy, Aruba to name a few. The wonderful memories of fun and laughter on these trips will be held close in the hearts of those friends who shared them with him.

He leaves his son, Tom Sambito and wife Barbara and grandchildren, Rachel and Steven of Holden. Being a dad to Tom and father-in- law to Barbara, who he called "my Barbara", was the joy of his life. Being Grampa to his two grandchildren is what gave him the ultimate happiness. Grampa never missed a game, a recital or any event involving or important to Rachel or Steven. He leaves his sisters Sharon Sambito of Leominster, Betty Tetreault and husband Joe of Vermont, his brothers, Jack Sambito of Leominster, Tony Sambito of Vermont, Michael Carter and his wife Beverly and Stephen Carter of FL; his sister-in-law Jayne and his former wife Eileen Sambito. He loved us all unconditionally and showed us every day. He was Uncle Tommy to several nieces and nephews, Jake Sambito, Kerri King, Angela Sambito, Anthony Sambito, Cameron Carter, Michele Carter, Chris Carter, Michael Carter and great nieces and nephew Nicole, Madison and Mason. Tommy also leaves his Irish and Italian cousins and the many, many friends who have been so important to him in his life.

He was predeceased by his sister Kathy Reichert and brother Butch Sambito

A very special thank you to the Foster Wing, Med Surg and ICU units at Leominster Hospital along with the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester for caring for Tom as he fought the fight over the past two months.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Tommy's memory to St. Jude's Children Hospital at www.stjude.org or the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
