Franklin Friedman Obituary

Age 90, of Flint Township, passed away September 23, 2025 at home. Services will be held 11 AM Friday September 26, 2025 at Machpelah Cemetery, Flint, Rabbi Yisroel Weingarten officiating.
Frank was born August 3,1935 to Max and Blanche Friedman. He grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he graduated from Central High School in 1953. He furthered his education and graduated from Western Michigan University with his Bachelor's degree in 1957 and his Master's degree in 1959. He received his second master's degree in 1989 from Michigan State University. He married the love of his life Rae Goldstein on December 24,1961 in Detroit, Michigan. In 1963 they moved to Flint, Michigan, where he began teaching French and English and directing a foreign language lab at Mott Community College. He retired from there in 1995. In 1967, their son Sammy was born. They devoted every moment to him until he passed away at age 38, taking a piece of them with him when he passed away. After Sammy passed away Frank started the Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan. He ran that group for 12 years until retiring on March 28, 2019. Frank was preceded in death by his son Sammy in 2005; and his wife Rae, of 53 years, in 2016. Although he never biologically had grandchildren, later in life he became "Papa Frank". This was a title he treasured and held so dearly. He was loved deeply by so many! We love you Papa Frank! Never forget!! Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.

Yesterday

When I was a student at MCC before finishing BA. and M.A. degrees at CMU, Mt. Pleasant, MI., I took Frank for a series of (4) semesters of French at MCC. He was a wonderful, compassionate, and enlightened instructor, who allowed me to de extra in-class presentations including a 20 century Art slide presentation as well an in-class classical French 19th century program with cds and art slides.
Frank, was also a renaissance man who loved classical music, French art and French cuisine. He lived in France and was a French individual who loved all of its culture.
He was a great person and will sorely be missed! RIP. Frank!!
