1st LT. TODD WEAVER Obituary

1st Lt. Todd William Weaver Williamsburg, VA First Lieutenant Todd William Weaver, 26, was killed in action in Kandahar, Afghanistan on September 9, 2010. He died while leading his platoon and protecting the freedoms of the family, friends, and country he loved. Lieutenant Weaver's short life was full, happy, and exceptionally accomplished. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was a decorated officer with an extremely bright future in the military. A lifelong world traveler, he had lived and journeyed across five continents. A brilliant scholar, Todd graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from the College of William and Mary in 2008. He was also a graduate of Bruton High School in Williamsburg, Virginia, where as quarterback and baseball star he excelled at athletics as well as academics. Todd touched countless lives with his love and light, and many remain to find ways of carrying on his example of courage, determination, and selflessness. In 2008 Todd married his wife Emma, also a graduate of Bruton High as well as Radford University Class of 2006. Their daughter Kiley Honoria Nell celebrated her first birthday while he was deployed in Kandahar. Siblings Glenn, Adrianna, and Kristina mourn the loss of their baby brother. Parents Donn and Jeanne grieve for their child. Todd was a beloved uncle to Silvia, Stephen, Rachel, Ethan, Daniel, Finn, and Astrid, and a best friend to many. Florida held a special place in Todd's life. He spent his childhood summers in the Sunshine State, and his young family enjoyed their predeployment holiday in Key West and Cocoa Beach, where his parents own a condo. Todd was thrilled to witness one of the final shuttle launches from KSC just weeks before he left for Afghanistan. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 25th at The Williamsburg Community Chapel at 3899 John Tyler Highway in Williamsburg, Virginia. The Church will open at 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 2:00 pm. Todd will be buried with highest honors at Arlington National Cemetery on October 14th at 3:00 pm; arrival must be no later than 2:30 pm. All are welcome at either or both services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contri butions be made to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund www.cfsrf.org.

My heart goes out to the family members of Lt. Weaver. I did not know Lt. Weaver, but recently I had the honor of accompanying his personal effects on a military C-17 aircraft from Ramstein, Germany, to McGuire AFB in NJ. Our flight left Ramstein on 25-SEP-2010 and arrived at McGuire the same day at ca. 17:00 hrs. The depth of my sorrow for Lt. Weaver and his widow, children, and parents can never match their sorrow and grief. I only hope that this brief message reaches them and gives them some small degree of comfort. I plan to attend his burial at Arlington on 14-OCT to anonymously pay my final respects to a fallen hero.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Todd will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms 1Lt. Todd Weaver. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Todd. And to Todd it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Todd, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Todd’s family and loved ones.
