Edward J. Mahoney, Jr. died recently at his home in Cape Canaveral following a brief illness.
Ed was born in Geneva, NY on July 13, 1954, to Edward and Elizabeth Mahoney, who predecease him. He graduated from Sayre High School, Sayre PA and was an outstanding wrestler. Wrestling was Ed's love and he gladly assisted various high school teams during his life.
Among Ed's many accomplishments, he served in the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He also worked for United Space Alliance and had the very responsible position of assisting in inspecting America's Space Shuttle Orbiter Fleet. In one example, he was given an award for his meticulous inspection of the Orbiter Columbia. He also participated in the investigation of the Orbiter Challenger accident. Ed truly loved his work on America's Orbiters.
Ed is survived by three sisters, Adele Coombe (Vero Beach), Christine Koole (Palm Bay) and Delina Fraley (Jupiter), and one brother, Jim Mahoney (Winter Haven), all of Florida. He is also predeceased by a sister Patty Furano and brother John Mahoney.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday,October 14, 2016, at 1pm at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island 32953.

In knew Ed when we served in the Air Force together about 40 years ago. He was a very good friend and we had some great times together. We were both young men then and so its hard for me knowing how strong he was then to learn that he had passed... We reconnected during the last 2 years and it was great hearing his voice again and his great sense of humor. I had just moved to Florida and was hoping to have some more good time with you Ed. That will have to wait until later now. God be with you dear friend. I will always miss you!

I am so sorry to learn of the death of Edward. I have known his family for decades and it grieves me to learn of the death of another of Delina's siblings. My condolences to Delina and her family....it is very sad to grief for this young man who should have had more time on this earth. Obviously God wanted him at this time...may the Lord bless him and care for him.
