Howard Simmons Obituary

HOWARD SIMMONS MELBOURNE Howard A. Simmons, 85, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008. Mr. Simmons was born in Eau Gallie, Florida. He owned and operated "Simmons Dairy" in Eau Gallie in the 1940s. Later he operated a dragline and other heavy equipment for the County and retired as the 35 Road and Bridge Supervisor for Brevard County, after 27 years. He was a member of the CCC in the 1930s and a veter an of the US Army in World War II serving in Europe. He was last of the charter members of the American Legion Post 163 in Eau Gallie where he was a member for 62 years; member of the VFW Post 4206 and the Society of 40 and 8 and a proud Democrat. He enjoyed putting on lots of fish frys and barbecues for vari ous community benefits, family and friends. He also enjoyed shooting pool, airboating and country music. Mr. Simmons is survived by his companion, Mary Yergey; daughters, Nina Simmons McKinley of Melbourne and Las Vegas, NV, Gayle Simmons Fulton of Keystone Heights and Debbie Simmons Tindall of Mel bourne; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Mosier of Mel bourne. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hampton and brother, Bud Simmons. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 24th, at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home. Graveside serv ices will be held at 3 p.m., Fri day, April 25th, at the Eau Gallie Cemetery. Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne is serving the family, (321) 723-2345. www.brownliemaxwell.com
