Kenneth Murray Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Murray

Melbourne Beach - Kenneth Wayne Murray, 65, of Melbourne Beach passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Palm Bay Memory Care (Palm Bay, FL) after a long battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA).

Ken was born at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated High School from Florida Air Academy in Melbourne in 1974. He then attended Norwich University in Vermont and afterward enlisted in the US Air Force stationed in Cheyenne, WY. After discharge he worked as an engineering draftsman for 28 years at CH2M Hill (recently acquired by Jacobs Engineering), moving his family coast to coast multiple times. While at CH2M Hill he managed the entire set of engineering drawings for the new Denver airport and also managed design and implementation of wastewater treatment plants all over the US and abroad (he worked on several in India). He moved to Sebastian from Gainesville in 2016 to be closer to his sister Sandie Taylor when he was diagnosed with PPA.

Ken was a talented artist and musician who would dance to any kind of music. He also loved the open road, put thousands of miles on his Harleys and told us last year that he wanted to go to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. He also loved being with family and friends, laughing and was always wearing a smile on his face. One of his accomplishments was the design and patent of a retractable syringe that was intended to help healthcare workers from being exposed to dirty needles during the AIDS epidemic.

Survivors include his daughter Erin Elizabeth of Fort Mill, SC, his son Kenneth Wayne, Jr of Boston, MA, his sister Sandie of Melbourne Beach, his niece Hannah Nicole Taylor of Concord, NC, and his best friend Susan Roode of Sebastian. Predeceased by him were his mother and father Shirley Jean King and Duell Devoughn Murray, of Sebring, FL.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Sebastian Inlet Restaurant on June 5th from 12-4pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be submitted at www.afcfcare.com

Ken Thanks Man, you're a great guy! Sorry for our lost. Working with Ken for the last years of his great career at CH, which he added so much value to. He loved being part of the CH family that most won't understand, unless you worked with fellow CH'rs, even though we went our separate ways at the end of the day. I felt he was one who couldn't wait for the next morning doing what enjoyed doing. He had passion and knowledge in what he was doing at work or in his personal life. I wish I would have had more time with Ken. People in his life have to be blessed. Ken... A Big Thanks
