WAYNE SPARKS MIMS, FL Thomas Wayne Sparks, long time Brevard County educat or, passed away at the age of 59 after a long battle with cancer on Sun day, May 6, 2007, with his lov ing wife Joan and his sister Jan by his side. Wayne spent 35 years in the Brevard County School System beginning at Oak Park Elemen tary School in 1969. He served as Truant Officer for North Brevard from 1973 to 1976. He served Cocoa High School as Assistant Principal in charge of discipline, and retired from Edgewood Junior-Senior High School in the summer of 2004. Wayne had a passion for help ing children, always finding a way to relate to students. His greatest happiness came from helping his students. Waynes greatest love was his wife, Joni, and he never met a person he didnt like. He was an avid golfer, spending many hours at La Cita Country Club with his golfing buddies. He also loved fishing, travel ing, and growing plants. He was well known for his beautiful day lilies, bromeliads, and especial ly, orchids. Wayne loved people and made a difference in the lives of all with whom he came in contact. He faced his illness with a positive attitude and a sense of humor, and was an in spiration to all who knew him. Wayne is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joan (Berlin) Sparks, Mims; and his sister, Jan Sparks, Burnsville, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. and Catherine Sparks. The family would like to thank Hospice of St. Francis and their many friends who have pro vided support during Waynes illness. In lieu of flowers, dona tions may be made to the Brevard Schools Foundation for the Wayne Sparks Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, FL 32940-6601. A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 12th, 11 a.m. at Park Avenue Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior. The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.
