Elfriede Samons Obituary

Elfriede Bruning Samons, age 93, of Minnie, widow of Grover Samons, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at her residence.

She was born April 3, 1920, in Bremerhaven, Germany, a daughter of the late Diedrich Gustav and Antoinette Katerina Baake Bruning. She was a retired postmaster and merchant.

Samons is survived by a daughter, Rita (Kevin) Daniels, of Minnie; two sons, Tony Samons, of Lexington, and Jody (Betty) Samons, of Minnie; nine grandchildren, Lora, Joshua, Adam, Nick, Suzanne, Maggie, Sophie, Jason and Amanda; and seven great grandchildren, Abby, Katie, Hagan, Lochlann, Brooklyn, Bryson and Elliott.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dieter Bruning (wife Herta), Herbert Bruning (wife Erika), and Eric Bruning, all of Bremerhaven Germany, and a sister, Erika Christa Bruning Bales (husband Gene), of Bremerhaven Germany, and Wellington, Kans.

Funeral services for Elfriede Bruning Samons will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, in the McDowell First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, at McDowell, with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.
