Alice LeBrun Obituary

WATERLOO - If you knew Alice M. Le Brun, you knew that family, friends, and faith were her DNA, her bedrock, and her lifeline. She fiercely defended and relied upon each throughout her lifetime.

Alice was a loving wife, a dedicated mother and mother-in-law and a devoted grandmother. She was an aunt to many and God mother to others. She was a woman of deep faith, a loyal friend, and served her community with pride.

At the golden age of 91, she unexpectedly passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by and enveloped in love and peace with her family.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours Friday, January 10, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Center Street, Waterloo. She will be laid to rest beside her loving and devoted husband, Louis, following the mass in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Alice was born April 19, 1933 in Geneva, N.Y., the daughter of the late Cornelius J. and Alice R. (Riley) Taney. Alice was a 1951 graduate of DeSales High School then went to work for the telephone company. She married the love of her life, Louis, in 1955 and they were blessed with four children: Mary Ellen, David, Stephen and Michelle. With tribulations also came trials when her daughter Mary Ellen, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 13. Family, friends and faith helped to endure. Her generous spirit was second to none: As a member of the Saint Francis Saint Clair Parish, Alice was a Eucharistic minister for many years, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Theresa 806, and St.Mary's Rosary and Altar Society. She was a thirty year member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority. She volunteered for the Waterloo Memorial Day Museum and the Celebrate Commemorate Committee, the Seneca County Children's Committee, and was a former election commissioner. She was also member of Concerned Citizens for Seneca County, 20 Stitches Sewing Club (over 50 years), Bunco Club, an avid bridge player, and golfer.

She is survived by her children; Dave (Teresa Beatini), Steve (Petra Anderson) and Michelle (Elbert Eller) LeBrun, grandchildren; Ronna, Reid, Chase, Philip LeBrun, and Margaux and Michael Eller; Doris Taney, her sister-in-law; and sidekick, many nieces, nephews, cousins and more friends than one could count, but could always be counted on.

Besides her parents, Alice is preceded in death by her husband; Louis, whom she was married to for 62 years until his passing in 2018, her daughter, Mary Ellen; her grandson, Andrew; brothers, Alfred, Fr. Frank, Robert J. and Cornelius Taney and sister, Margaret Taney Robinson.

Alice was as dependable as the sunrise. Her heart was as big as the moon. Her spirit was larger than life. And her love for her family, friends and faith was admirable and an example for others. She will be greatly missed, but her effect forever felt to the lives she touched.

I have only known her a few years, but right from the start knew she was a wonderful person - her great smile, kindness, and love of everything around her made her special. Will miss her requesting "extra cherry juice" (LOL), her sense of humor, and her beautiful dimples! RIP beautiful lady - you will be missed!

Mrs. LeBrun was one of those people who didn't seem to consider the possibility of being unhappy, no matter what the burden. She always seemed to weather her storms with a smile, and never cast a shadow on anyone else's day. She was a woman of purpose who never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. What a loss. So sorry for her family, but I know they realize she is smiling still.

Heaven gained a Great woman. She was a mother to me and Grandmother to my children. I spent hours and hours at the LeBrun house growing up. She and Louie had such a huge impact on life. I will miss our talks that stretched from Politics to Religion. She was always happy and smiling. Just a joy to be around!! I know that Louie, Mary Ellen and Andrew have welcomed you with open arms. Rest in Peace, I love you!!

Dear Michelle,
I am so sorry. Your mother was a God-send to mine and such a lovely, lovely lady. You and your family captured her beautiful spirit so well in your words here. She was indeed as "dependable as the sunrise, her heart as big as the moon, etc." Wonderful woman, tremendous loss.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. I´m sure these are the words of Michelle. I was blessed to know and love Alice as a member of the Catholic Daughters and to recognize her great faith. Years before that Mack and I knew her at a special St. Patrick´s celebration at the Town Pump. What fun and great memory of our Irish connection. And these last years as a member of Minions (or as Lou called us, Onions) I have shared great joy with Alice in our fun times together. She was a perpetual optimist that brought fun and deep discussions to our group Alice will be forever in my heart.
