Ann was born in Brockport, N.Y. to Harry and Ann Cleveland. She spent her entire childhood in Brockport, graduating from Brockport High School in 1949. She then enrolled at Keuka College, graduating in 1953 with a BS in Nursing.
Ann married the love of her life, Harry G. Burt, on May 2, 1953 and together they raised three children. Ann was a very loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, caring sister and aunt, and loyal friend. She made sure everyone knew they were important to her with her endless greeting cards and other acts of kindness.
Ann's nursing career began in 1953 as a public health nurse in Rochester, NY. During her 30 year Nursing career, she was a school nurse teacher, In-Service Instructor for multiple agencies, Clinical Instructor at the Marion S Whalen School of Practical Nursing, LPN Clinical Instructor at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES Finger Lakes Occupational School, and ultimately a Nursing Administrator responsible for the development and coordination of Geneva General Hospital's Long Term Care Staff Development Department.
Ann and Harry loved living in Geneva, so much so, that they moved to Geneva three times. Ann was very passionate about her community; devoting endless time, support, and advocacy to multiple community outreach clubs, programs, and organizations (most notably around healthcare, the arts, education, youth, and disabilities). She served on the Happiness House board of Directors for 30 years, nominated as "Outstanding Board Member of the Year" in 2013. Ann was also actively involved with Planned Parenthood of the Finger Lakes, United Way of Ontario County, Geneva Historical Society, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, League of Women Voters Court Watching Program, Finger Lakes Lung Association, and Clifton Springs Library. She was very devoted to her faith and her church; serving as a member of the session for The Presbyterian Church over many years. Ann and Harry were named Citizens of the Year by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
Ann loved her gardens and the hummingbirds they attracted. She was a voracious reader all her life and participated in local book clubs. She also was a lifetime learner and enjoyed her participation in the Clifton Springs Tourist Club and Geneva Forum. Harry and Ann traveled extensively in and out of the country, but their favorite destination was always Wellfleet, Cape Cod. Ann's children and grandchildren will forever cherish the wonderful memories made on family vacations.
Ann was a caring and loving wife to Harry for 66 years, until his death in July 2019. She is survived by her three children: Geoffrey C. Burt of Omaha, NE, Jamison T. (Shauna) Burt of Cambridge, NY, and Cindy Burt Mattoon of Geneva; her two grandchildren whom she adored: Captain Geoffrey C. (Stephanie) Mattoon of Alexandria, VA; who serves in the US Army and is completing a master's degree at George Mason University in Biodefense, and Rosel Burt, currently attending The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH; her loving sister Barbara Lauver, niece Sheri (Vince) Silvaer, and their two children Nicole and Justin, of Tucson, AZ.
The Burt family would like to extend a very special thank you for the wonderful care she received from the UR Medicine Ontario-Yates Hospice team, Signature Care Home Care (especially her direct care aide), and the Presbyterian Parish Nurse-ALL of whom were mom's "Angels".
