Basil J. Guererri

GENEVA - Basil J. Guererri, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday (October 22, 2021), surrounded by his family at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday (October 26) at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday (October 27) at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Basil was born in Geneva, N.Y., the son of the late Eugene and Katie (Lagana) Guerrie Jr. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1945. Basil was drafted into the United States Army, serving in the European Theater in Germany during WWII. He became an iron worker and was a member of the Iron Workers Local #33, in Rochester, N.Y., for 35 years. In 1959, Basil married Carmela Peluso. Together they raised two children, David J. Guererri and Jennifer J. Guererri. Basil was regarded as a second father to many young men while he resided on North Main Street for 55 years. He enjoyed coaching his son in baseball and basketball. Basil loved to golf and was on two championship teams at the Big Oak Golf Club Can-Am tournament. He recorded two holes-in-one at the Seneca Lake Country Club, where he was a member for 30 years. Basil was well known by many in Geneva. He loved spending the winter days with his best friend, Cosmo Iannapollo, at the OTB, in Seneca Falls.
He is survived by his children, David J. Guererri of Geneva and Jennifer J. Guererri of Geneva; sister, Kathy (David) Heatherly of Cordovia, Tenn.; as well as his grandchildren, Vincent Guererri and Justin (Emily) Guererri; and several nieces and nephews.
Basil was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Carmela Darlene (Peluso) Guererri; brothers, Peter Guererri, Gene Guererri and Dick Guererri; and his sister, Eunice McCarthy.
