Dale Arcangeli Obituary

ROMULUS - Dale Carter Arcangeli, 74, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (February 26, 2025) at his home.

The memorial service will be Saturday (March 8) at 10 a.m. at Ovid Federated Church, 7137 Main Street, Ovid, N.Y. 14521, followed by a reception. Rev. J. Robert Mellgard, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Dale was born on November 9, 1950, in Seneca Falls, N.Y., to Angelo A. and Grace G. Creswell Arcangeli. A 1968 graduate of Interlaken Central School, he later earned an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Monroe Community College and completed his Bachelor's degree at Eastern Kentucky University. Dale devoted 26 years of his life to the Seneca County Sheriff's Department, retiring as Chief Deputy in 1998. Over the course of his career, he advanced from a junior officer to the chief deputy position. He played a key role in establishing both the mounted patrol and SCUBA team within the department. Dale was a proud member of his community, serving as a South Seneca School Board member.

After retirement, he was an investigator at the Finger Lakes Racetrack. Outside of his professional life, Dale had a passion for woodworking, crafting and enjoyed spending time outdoors. In his later years, Dale could often be found at the Ovid McDonald's or Rylee's Place, where he cherished time spent with friends, neighbors or anyone who would listen to one of his stories.

Dale is survived by sons, Justin (Elizabeth) M. Arcangeli of Rochester, N.Y. and Bryan (Linda) D. Arcangeli of Stevens City, Virginia; grandchildren, Scott (Amber) Rich and Alexandrea (Tyler) Smoot; great grandchildren, Rebekah, Skyla, Dylan and Cody Dale; brother, Dean (Patty) Arcangeli of Ovid, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Dale is also survived by his partner of six years, Char Butson.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Tracy, in 2009; and his parents.

Where to begin, such a kind, compassionate, and passionate man who wanted and did help so many people, when my sister was killed in a car accident, you made it so that my parents didn't have to identify, you did it for them. Then you drove to my place of work to bring me home so I didn't have to drive in awful weather conditions. After my Mother passed in 2017, my Dad became one of the McDonald's clan and he so enjoyed the bantering of everyone. He loved you like a brother and enjoyed you and Char taking him to Homer. Everyone who knew Dale was and is truly
blessed. I remember what I said to you after my Dad's passing last year. Thank you and thank you for loving my Dad. I want to thank you again, for loving all of us and all who needed help throughout your life. God speed my friend until we all meet again. I smile knowing that my Dad and Amy were there in line with so many to meet you in the beauty of heaven and our lord Jesus smiling at you saying Well done, well done, and welcome home.
Much love now and ALWAYS! God's speed.

Mr. Arcangeli taught a traffic investigation class at S.E.A.D. around 1987 that I attended as a young Millitary Policeman . He later wrote a recommendation letter for me which helped me become a Sheriff's Deputy in my home county in Illinois. I am now also a retired Chief Deputy and thought of him often throughout my career and will be forever grateful to him for guiding me and helping me at the beginning of my journey.
Rest in peace Brother.
Until we meet again.

I remember all the days that dale and I use to spend days at McDonald´s. By the way this shows that McDonald´s is not the best place to eat at. I love you dale and I miss Tracey. To you dale: I will miss and love you dearly. You have a special place in the bottom of my guts.

Dale, you WERE family. You treated me so much better than some of my own would. You treated my son like he was your own. Folks deserved to know what a wonderful man you were, a sherif for so many years taking care of people and being the first on the scene to horrific incidents! That´s just one thing that I will remember about you, your compassion! Even when we had a spat you would apologize for your part in it and respect my feelings! You will always hold a very special place in my heart!! Much love and hugs, till we meet again!!
