Dana Gibson Obituary

DUNDEE - Dana R. Gibson, age 67, of Dundee, N.Y., passed away Thursday (June 24, 2021) at the Keuka Comfort Care Home, with his loving wife by his side.

Calling hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (July 3) with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the church dining hall at the Second Milo Baptist Church, 1964 Second Milo Road, Penn Yan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Second Milo Baptist Church, C/O 58 Water Street, Dundee, NY 14837; Dundee Fire Co. Emergency Squad, 12 Union Street, Dundee, NY 14837 or the Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Dana was born April 8, 1954, in Penn Yan, N.Y., the first son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Ansley) Gibson. He graduated from Dundee Central School in 1972 and continued to operate the family dairy, Gibson Farms, with his father, brother and many loyal employees. Always a ladies' man, he was finally hooked by Susan Hall and they married on June 12, 1976 at the Second Milo Baptist Church, where they met. A well-respected and knowledgeable farmer, Dana ran the family farm until 2001 when the farm fell victim to the tumultuous market of the times and he made the difficult decision to sell the farm. Dana continued to work in the farming community as a consultant for Cargill Animal Nutrition for 17 years. His duties often extended beyond feed sales to providing farming advice and online searching for his customers, many of whom became good friends. He also worked for several years for Pirrung Auctioneers.

An active member of the community from his early days, Dana was his DCS class president for four years, Yates County 4-H member for 12 years, member of the Crystal Valley Grange, Yates County Farm Bureau member (six years as President), Village of Dundee Board Member and Deputy Mayor and Second Milo Baptist Church member, as Deacon and for many years on the Board of Trustees. However, his greatest source of pride was his family.

He is loved and will be dearly missed by his beloved and devoted wife of 45 years, Susan; daughter, Melanie (Jared) Webster; son, Bryce (Lisa) Gibson; grandsons Steven and Aidan Webster; brother, William (Karen) Gibson; numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends; special dear friends Faye and Steve Thompson, Karen and Dale Hallings, Rachel and Alan Doan, Bob and Laurie Timberman; and his faithful driving companion, Riley.

Besides his parents, and parents-in-law, Charles and Daisy Hall, he was predeceased by three brothers-in-law Jon Hall, David Marusarz and Aaron Hall.

Sorry to hear about Dana. Such a great man, he will be missed by everyone. I had the honor of meeting and working with Dana thru the vet clinic, also having a few "adult beverages" at Bob's farm. RIP my friend
