Delores Sutherland Obituary
A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at the convenience of her family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Delores' memory to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, PO Box 107. Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Delores was born in Geneva, N.Y. on September 1, 1936, the daughter of Harold and Arlene (Harer) Dean. Delores graduated from Penn Yan Academy, as well as from Freeman's Business School in 1955. She married William H. "Bill" Sutherland on May 10, 1958. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 11 years, cheerleading coach for the Yates County Junior Football League for several years, as well as being the best 4-H and Homeroom mom, ever. Delores was a past member of the Penn Yan Fire Dept. Auxiliary, was on the Penn Yan PTA for two terms, was a 41 year member, past president and secretary for the Penn Yan Kiwanis Club, as well as a founding member of the Keuka College Circle K Club. Delores was the founding treasurer of the Central Lakes Chapter of the National Home Builders Association. Delores was on the original StarShine committee and served as a judge for the Miss Penn Yan contest committee for many years. Delores was a co-recipient of the Keuka College Community Service Award, with her husband, Bill.
She loved gardening and fishing with her grandchildren and enjoyed singing in the Bluff Point United Methodist church choir. Delores was an avid football fan and cheered on Syracuse, Penn State, and Notre Dame College Football, as well as The Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. Delores was a very social person who enjoyed spending time with her friends, as well as her daughter's many friends.
Delores is survived by her husband of 63 years, William H. "Bill" Sutherland; daughters, Karen (John) Budd, Wendy (Lance) Mc Fetridge, Pamela (Jeffrey) Housel, Lynne (JJ) Covell, and Susan (Jill) Pannozzo; grandchildren, Kelli Brown, Jennifer (Michael) Ballard, Matthew McFetridge, Bryan (Alison) Housel, Ashley (Shaun) Covell, Samantha (Gordon) Barron, Jessica Covell, Amber (Cory) MacPherson, Jessica (Thomas) Faga, and Daniel Budd; great-grandchildren, Alex, Zoe, Riley, Kane, Arianna, John, Shaun, and Kaydence; sister, Luella; and brothers, Judd and Peter Dean.
