Diane Marie Brown

PENN YAN– Diane Marie Brown age 60, of Meadowside Apartments, Penn Yan, passed away July 2, 2024.

Diane was born in Penn Yan, the daughter of the late Josiah Brown and Orline (Slayter) Brown (Hoose).

She is survived by a son, Jonathan "Jon" Brown of Penn Yan; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and Paul Burkhardt of Penn Yan; half-sister, Dorothy "Dottie" (James) Christiansen; grandson Noah; her cat Joey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; step-father, Erwin Hoose; half-sisters, Margaret Colf and Genevieve "Dibby" Hilligus; and her cat, Sunnie.

Diane lived at the Meadowside Apartments in Penn Yan. She could be seen running around town, shopping and visiting rummage sales in her electric wheelchair. She volunteered at Office of the Aging, Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, and the Penn Yan United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church. The loves of her life were her two cats, Joey and Sunnie. She and her sister, JoAnne, lovingly called each other by the same nickname, "Gruda". She loved to crochet and made many, many Afghan blankets.

The family will receive friends at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan on Tuesday (July 9) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home; with a burial and committal service in Lakeview Cemetery at 3 p.m. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church Memorial Building.
