Doris A. Herd

STANLEY, N.C. - Doris A. Seymour Herd, 84, passed away Aug. 1, 2009, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 2) at First Presbyterian Church of Stanley, with the Rev. Dan King officiating. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 6) at Fairville Presbyterian Church in Newark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "Global Outreach" First Presbyterian Church of Stanley or Fairville Presbyterian Church Newark.
She was a native of Wayne County, daughter of the late LaVerne and Gladys Lester Seymour. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church Stanley, and worked 18 1/2 years at Newark Courier Gazette. She was a birth mother to six children and mother to all she met.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Herd and wife, Gail of Fort Collins, Colo., Kenneth Herd and wife, Debbie, of Newark, Dennis Herd of Lyons, Rick Herd and wife, Sharon, of Stanley, N.C.; daughter, Sharon and husband, Tim Carter, of York, S.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Husner of Pickens, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur F. Herd; son, Douglas James Herd; sisters, Eva Dailey, Jean Baldwin; brother, Roy Seymour; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Herd.
Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, N.C., is serving the Herd family.
