Eugene Mouton Obituary

PHELPS - Eugene K. Mouton, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Monday (May 11, 2015) at his home.
Friends may call on Thursday (May 14) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street, Phelps. Funeral services will be private for the family. It is requested that memorial donations in Gene's memory be made to wounded warrior project, Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS. 66675.
Gene was born on July 27, 1954 in Clifton Springs, N.Y., the son of Kamiel and Marjorie House Mouton. He was a graduate of Midlakes High School. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he was employed at the Seneca Army Depot until its closing. He then went to G.W. Lisk and worked on the Downtown Renovation of Clifton Springs. Gene has been working at Hallagan Furniture in Newark for over 15 years. He took great pride in his role as a shop foreman and enjoyed the creative aspect of helping to build furniture. Gene was an avid reader, who over the last few years had been maturing in his walk with his Lord Jesus Christ. Later in life, he received certificates in biblical studies from Hillsong International Leadership College. Gene deeply loved, and was totally devoted to his family. His favorite place to be was at home with them, in which he was a husband, father, and very proud grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Phyllis Mouton of Phelps; daughters, Heather (Jared) Colletti of Phelps, Kellie (Ty) Allen of Phelps; grandchildren, Isaiah, Sedessa, Leah and Simon Colletti, Elijah, Seth, Nahum and Lydia Allen; mother, Marjorie Mouton of Clifton Springs; sisters, Deborah Herrmann of Dansville, Bonnie (Gary) Eider of Phelps, Kathy Mallaber of Manchester, Tracy Hemen of Manchester; brother, Ken Mouton of Clifton Springs; countless other relative and friends. He was predeceased by his Father Kamiel Mouton and sister Karen Lapresi.

He was a great person, I've known his family throughout my High school years. Even though I moved to Florida and lost touch with the family, will never forget the times spent with all of the family, Gene, Phyllis, Heather, Kellie, Kenny, and Marge. The world needs more people like Gene. Never Forgotten!!!

Some of my fondest memories are of Gene as a student of Hillsong International Leadership College - Faith Works Biblical Studies. It is an incomparable gift to have had him as a student for two years. He was so eager to learn more about and grow in his relationship with Jesus Christ. He didn't talk much in our weekly classes, but when he did, the room silenced and everyone listened intently as he shared great wisdom and the many new revelations he attained from the Holy Spirit and the course material. He often became the teacher and I his student.
Gene endeavored to incorporate what he learned into is life. We all know this can be easier said than done. It was during those two years when I witnessed a metamorphic transformation in his countenance and spirit. I had the unique opportunity to read and grade Gene's term papers (he had beautiful penmanship). Combining his weekly class participation, his term paper writings, the sermon he presented during the last class, our private conversations and his expressed desires to seek and live out his designed, God given purposes, all gave me glimpses of Gene's love for Jesus Christ and of the love Jesus Christ has for Gene. God's free, un-earnable, forgiveness was often at the core of our conversations.
Gene was very fond of Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV). He choose to memorize and foster this verse in his heart. Perhaps we can pause and hear him read these words, The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

I am so very sorry. My heart hurts for Aunt Marjorie, Phyllis, Heather, Kelly, every family member & friend who has been touched with the grief we share because of the sudden loss of Gene, a husband, Dad,son, brother, cousin and friend.
I am grateful that I was able to spend some time with Gene, my cousin,at the Family reunion a few years ago. I fondly remember the fun times we had together as kids when my parents would drive from NH to NY once a year...we stayed with Grandma & Grandpa House...got together with all the cousins and would run to the park near their house in Phelps to play.
Please know that you are all in my prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you right now! With every hug you get from the people who love you, a little sorrow and sadness will be taken away. I love you all!!

With tearful eyes we heard,
that you had passed away.

And although we love you dearly,
we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the Best!

Gene was my brother from another mother. I believe the fact that since our mothers were twins their children also had a very strong bond. I look forward to the time when we will be together once again joining the heavenly choir in singing praises to our LORD and Savior. My prayers are for those left with an empty spot in our hearts. God's peace is there for the asking.
