Florence Baiocchi Obituary

Florence (Saida) Baiocchi
Feb. 9, 1925 - Sept. 24, 2014
Resident of Walnut Creek
Florence was born in Chicago, and raised in the Lucca area of Italy. She survived the WWII and Nazi occupation in Italy, married John Baiocchi in 1946, and returned to the Chicago area with her husband to start a business that became Johnny's restaurant in La Grange Park, Illinois. They retired to Alamo, California in 1971, and after John passed away in 1987, Florence moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. Her greatest joy was preparing delicious Italian meals for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children John of Milwaukee, WI, Tina (Gillespie) of Cheyenne, WY, and Guido (Guy) of Vancouver, WA. Her grandchildren Lauren, Guido, Paul, Nick and Jenna, and her great-grandchildren Enzo and Isla will sorely miss her. We will all remember her for her warm, outgoing spirit and joy for friends and family.
She joins her beloved husband John, her Parents Guido Carmignani and Ines Giuntoli Carmignani, her devoted Sister Aurora Carmignani Pagano, and her childhood friends Joanne Giusti and Tecla Guidi in the eternal joy of God's grace.
Friends and family are invited to a Funeral Mass at St Isidore's Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA at 10:30 AM on Thursday October 2, with interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the American Lung Association.

Florence and I were business partners for a short while in a catering business. She taught me many things, but I will always remember her loving soul...so kind. She always thought the very best of people. She was funny also. One time we were on a job. The home had an open floor plan and we were in the kitchen cooking as others were having their cocktails and visiting with each other. We had something in the oven that needed to come out so Florence walked over to the oven, reached down, grabbed the oven door. When she pulled, the whole oven door came off! You had to be there, but the look on her face was so funny. She didn't know what to do. Here these people were just a few feet away from us. No one saw it. All we could do was start laughing. It was one of those laughter's that one couldn't control so we both went into crying. All the time hiding from everyone what had just happened and hiding that we were hysterical. I don't remember too much of what happened after. We survived and the food was good. That's all that mattered. A dear gem. She is sorely missed. I will always remember her with great affection. I learned about her death after the funeral so was not able to attend. Until we meet again Florence! Cheers!

Florence was a loving soul and was very proud of her heritage! Wherever she went she would speak some Italian hoping that someone would answer.

As much as she will be missed she has now returned to her sweetheart Johnny which she has missed so much since he passed.

Ciao Florence, Salute...

Florence was the centerpiece of all the Baiocchi social gatherings - generous in her food preparation and interaction, she was an unforgettable and spirited presence. May she rest in peace.
