Herbert Cooley Obituary
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday (December 2) at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home 181 N. Main St. Geneva.
A service and small reception will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday (December 3) at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Geneva. The Rev. James Adams, rector will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Peter's Community Arts Academy.
Herb was born on October 22, 1955, in Geneva, N.Y. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1973 and received his bachelor's degree from Hobart College in 1978. Herb worked for 39 years as a food science research technician and graduate student mentor at Cornell AgriTech in Geneva.
A man of deep faith who always had a kind word and a story to share, Herb loved people and considered everyone a friend. He was a passionate outdoorsman and spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, golfing, skiing and traveling. Herb also loved gardening, savoring Finger Lakes wine, enjoying local music and finding peace in the ever changing views of Seneca Lake. He was known for his sense of humor, love of family, positive outlook and the joy he took from his involvement in the community, most notably as a youth football coach and parishioner of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Dangl Cooley; children, Chris Cooley (Brittany Taylor) and Katie (Andrew) Trout; grandson, Hayden; father, Charles James "Jim" Cooley; siblings, Mike (Patty) Cooley, Eileen (Matthew) Sullivan and Hope (Ernie) Dodge; brother-in-law, John (Ella) Dangl; aunt, Jane Fleming Hefferon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Herb was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Fleming Cooley.
