James R. Clarcq

1936 - 2021

PHELPS - James R. Clarcq, age 85, died on Friday (December 10, 2021) at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.

There will be no prior calling hours. Private burial will be held in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

It is requested that memorial contributions be made to Phelps Ambulance PO Box 84 Phelps, NY 14532, House of John 14 Spring Street Clifton Springs, NY 14432 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Mr. Clarcq was born on December 5, 1936 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the late Richard and Margaret Young Clarcq. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Phelps American Legion. Mr. Clarcq owned and operated Clarcq Printers in Phelps for many years. He retired from Diamond Packaging in Rochester. He was very involved in Phelps Little League Baseball. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Clifton Springs Big M Game Club. Mr. Clarcq loved traveling and camping with his family. He was a storyteller and a jokester! He enjoyed helping Foreign Exchange students and hosted over 20 exchange students with his wife and family. He was very good at scrimshaw. Most important was his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years Nancy Mullen Clarcq, of Phelps; children, Laurie Clarcq of Austin, Texas, James Clarcq of Norfolk, Va., Karen ( Russell) Clarcq-Perez of Baldwinsville, Kathleen Clarcq of Clifton Springs, and Exchange student son, Javier (Denis) Farfan; grandchildren, Anthony, Ben, Christopher, Courtney, Emily, Matthew, Amy, Kathy, Josh, Zach and April; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Landon; sister, Deborah (Kevin) Cole of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Diane Clarcq of Williamsburg, Va.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Dennis Clarcq.

Funeral arrangements have been made with the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps.
