James Tuttle Obituary

PENN YAN– James Joseph Tuttle Jr., 63, of Penn Yan, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, (September 20) from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee, N.Y. His funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Lay Pastor Lew Ann Giles officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dr. David Jeremiah at David Jeremiah.org

He was born in Montour Falls, N.Y. on June 29, 1960, the son of James Joseph Tuttle, Sr. and Carol Louise Cadwell and attended Dundee Central School. James worked at Seneca Foods in Dundee for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.

James made many things. He loved repurposing items and furniture of all kinds. He made very pretty wall art, tables and shelves, which he sold or gave away. He collected NASCAR items including trading cards. This hobby gave him much pleasure especially in the later stages of his illness. He always stayed current on what cards were selling and their values. James raced at Dundee Speedway when he was younger and hated giving it up.

James came to realize early in his illness, but still suffering greatly, what is important in life-God, family and friends. He had regret that he lost friends that he had a great fondness for. He said he stopped reaching out to them as many of us do. He had so many things he wanted to do when he was well again and there was no doubt he would have accomplished them. He didn't have children but did have his wonderful dog Zeus, who he had the deepest love for. Zeus went everywhere with James before he became ill. You never saw him without his most loyal, trusting companion. He rescued him from a farm and Zeus never stopped trying to repay him.

James is survived by his mother, Carol; two sisters, Ruthanne Schenck of Penn Yan and Debra Litchfield of Penn Yan and formerly of Columbus, NC; and by several aunts, uncles, one niece, and numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, James Joseph Tuttle, Sr.
