DANSVILLE - Jo Ann Hindle, 78, passed away peacefully early Wednes day morning, May 25, 2016, at the Vincent House in Wayland.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 29, at the Dansville United Metho dist Church. Inter ment will be in Union Cemetery, Scottsburg. Online remembrances may be left at

She was born in Kane, Pa., on April 22, 1938, a daughter of the late Roy D. and Helen (Frase) Ashbaugh. On August 20, 1960, she was married to Charles Edward Hindle II, who survives. A Graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, N.Y., Jo Ann studied at Genesee Hospi tal School of Nursing from 1956 to 1959, where she was pinned a Registered Nurse. Jo Ann and Ed moved to Dansville in April of 1966, where she continued her nursing at the former Dansville Memorial Hospital for a short time. She was also a nurse at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp., and an office nurse for the former Dr. Augustin and Dr. Wagner. Ed and Jo Ann owned and operated the Hindle Funer al Home in Dansville from 1966 until their retirement in 1995. In her free time she enjoyed spending winters in Clear water Beach, Fla., and bird watching. Jo Ann was an accomplished needle worker, she loved to do counted cross stitch. Most of her needle work is on display in her home, along with a collection of her Sally Patchin baskets and trays. Jo Ann was a member of the Sparta Center United Methodist Church, the Dansville Presbyterian Church, the Deborah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Dansville Lioness Club. Jo Ann and Ed loved to travel and took their five oldest grandsons on a cross-country road trip for six weeks many years ago and the boys still talk about it frequently. She loved to shop and attend the many craft shows in the fall in search of new dining room chairs; she was tired of using folding chairs that her husband provided from the funeral home.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband of fifty-six years, Ed, are her children, Casey (Lewis) Bickle of West Sparta, Carl (Lisa) Hindle of Dansville, Jennifer Inman of Chittenan go, Susan (John) McBride of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua Bickle, Eric Hindle, Christian (Leanne Smith) Hindle and Cyle Hindle, Jake and Jessica Inman, Skyler and Sonny McBride; great-grandchildren, Logan and Madelyn; two sisters, Donna (Rev. Thomas) Montgomery, and Peggy (Leon) Stannard and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a son, Charles "Charlie" Edward Hindle III, and a brother, Roy H. "Butch" Ashbaugh.
