Joe Chavers Obituary

NEWARK - Joe Terry Chavers, 85, entered eternal rest on Sunday (May 22, 2016) at DeMay Living Center.
Fulfilling Joe's wishes there will be no prior calling hours. Family will gather with friends for a celebration of Joe's life on Saturday (May 28) at 11 a.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. Private burial in Holy Sepulcher.
In memory of Joe, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Roberta Cotton c/o the funeral home.
Joe was born the son of the late Thomas and Ima (Grimes) Chavers on Friday, February 6, 1931, in Covington, Ala. He retired from Eastman Kodak Co. (Kodak Park) where he worked in janitorial. Joe enjoyed dancing, country music and playing his guitar. Over the years Joe had composed a few songs of his own. He was known to his friends as the "Yankee Rebel."
Joe will be remembered by his loving companion Roberta Cotton; son Zachary (Brenda) Chavers; step-son Stan Yanklowski; step-daughters Mary Neitzel, Kathy Yanklowski, Carol (Greg) Ives and Linda (Tom) Russell; sister Nell Boggan; step daughter-in-law Mary Yanklowski; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Loretta (Zink) Chavers in 1983; step-sons Jack in 2012 and William in 1988.
