John Daniels Obituary

GENEVA – Jack Daniels, husband, father, coach and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday (February 27, 2021). Born on October 25, 1936, he was 84.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (March 3, 2021), at DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home 181 N. Main St., Geneva.

He was born in Erie, Penn. and attended Erie East High School. He graduated from the University of Buffalo and completed his Masters work at Colgate University.

A member of the US Coast Guard, he served proudly at Cape May, New Jersey. He coached football for decades and touched the lives of many as a leader, mentor and teacher, and will be remembered not only for the molding of countless men, but as a gentle man with a ready smile for all around and a gift for emphatically communicating his point of view (damnit).

Upon retiring, Jack and Carol moved to Virginia before coming home to Geneva, Carol's hometown, where he spent two more years coaching at Hobart College. He spent his remaining life enjoying time at games and with Carol and Ted.

Jack was married to the former Carol Ann McLellan, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary this past July. They had three children Donna, Jill (Pat) and Tag. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren Stephen (Shauna), Abigail, Lauren (Steven), Fitz, Isabelle, Paige, and Alexis; his three sisters Jean Barth, Rita Baggett and Marilyn Metcalf; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol,
I just heard of coach’s passing. I am so sorry and send my belated condolences. He meant a lot to me as a young man. What a great smile and positive attitude. I was glad we were able to reconnect over the past few years. God bless and thank God for Jack Daniels.

Since I received the news of Coach Daniels passing it has given me time to reflect on his impact on my life. Though he passed through my life for a short period of time there may not be anyone else besides my parents that influenced it more in my youth. Still today his influence steers me on how I interact with others. He was a coach in every sense of the word. Rest In Peace “Coach” Daniels you made a huge impact on the world.
