John was a great guy. Smart, funny, kind and a perfect gentleman. His wonderful obituary says it all.

Very sad. Neighbor, classmate, one letter away from the two of us having the same first and last names. Simply stated, just a great guy. God bless John & family.

It's been 44 years since I had the great pleasure of meeting John Hickey. Time spent with him at the New England Home for LW (and The Plough and Stars) are standout memories. His witty humor, silent laughter, and kindness to humans of all ages will be deeply missed. I hope unforgettable memories will help all of John's family & friends through this difficult time.

I worked with John closely as the OT at The Riverdale School. He was always willing to think outside the box on students. We often chatted about running and Ireland. So sorry to hear of his passing. He really was a true gentleman. Thinking of you Kathy. May he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of working with John for 8 years at the Riverdale School. I always looked forward to seeing him everyday. His warm welcoming smile and gentle ways. He had a great love of literature, running, helping children, Kathy & coffee! His strong beliefs for fair working conditions and standing up for the underdog will never be forgotten. He is responsible for the success of many students that he always considered his kids. I will never forget our chats & his support and friendship. Rest in peace my friend. Keeping Kathy & his extended family in my thoughts and prayers.
