Joyce Worrell Obituary

WILLARD - Joyce K. Worrell, 46, of 1511 County Road 132, died peacefully in the loving arms of her sister, Pam, on Monday (Oct. 19, 2009) at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 22) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main St., Ovid. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday (Oct. 23) at the Ovid Federated Church, officiated by the Rev. Diane Walker.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Joyce's memory to the South Seneca Central School Campus Beautification Fund, 7263 Main St., Ovid 14521, or the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road N., Rochester 14609.
Joyce, daughter of Richard and Beverly Westervelt of Trumansburg, who survive her, was born Oct. 26, 1962, in Ithaca. She graduated from Trumansburg High School and attended State University College at Morrisville. Many will remember Joyce as the smiling face in the office of the Ovid Big M where she had worked for 24 years. In addition to being a loving, caring, nurturing and patient wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt, her family will always remember her love of cooking, gardening and sewing. Joyce also found time for woodworking, floral design, crocheting and knitting. She was passionate about everything she did, putting her heart and soul into all she did to ensure a comfortable and soothing life for her family. Her beautiful, welcoming home was a reflection of her many talents.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is survived by her husband of 17 years, Richard C. Worrell II; son, Collin Worrell at home; daughter, Jessica Worrell (fiance, Corey Burns) of Elmira Heights, Chemung County; unborn granddaughter, Alorah Joyce Burns, who is expected in December 2009; siblings, Richard (Rose) Westervelt of Ithaca, Darrick Westervelt of McLean, Tompkins County, Mark (Linda) Westervelt of Boca Raton, Fla., Pam (Richard) Blass of Lodi; her mother-in-law, Mary Worrell of Ovid; the rest of her husband's family; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dear Mr. Worrell and Family, I recently heard of the passing of Joyce. I knew her only a short time, and know that she loved her family so very much, and how mutual that love continues to be. It was a privilege to participate in her medical care. She was amazing throughout. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
