Julia Rodger Obituary

Julia M. (Jenkins) Rodger

Waterloo;

Julia M. ""Julie"" Rodger, 72, passed away peacefully at Geneva General Hospital, Saturday October 26, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was surrounded by the love and faith of her children, siblings, lifelong friends and the tirelessly working nursing staff at Geneva General Hospital.

Julie was born on February 16, 1952 in Waterloo, N.Y. the daughter of the late William S. and Betty M. (Weber) Jenkins, Jr. She was a 1970 graduate of Waterloo High School. She and her family are members of Saint Mary's Church and supporters of Catholic education.

To know Julie was to share in her love for life and unwavering love of God. Her greatest gifts of sewing, photography, singing and antiquing brought her and those she loved pure joy. Her children have enjoyed hearing stories about Julie's Barbie Clothes Business to her sewing bridal dresses. As a young girl, Julie had a special love for the elderly, working as a Candy Striper at Taylor Brown Memorial Hospital. She became a mother of five children; watching her children play sports, volunteering at St. Mary's School, being a Girl Scout leader, camping and hiking in the Adirondack Mountains (especially those Family Reunions), canoeing, and of course, sewing Halloween costumes. Her fierce love for her children then carried on to her 21 grandchildren. They in turn loved her almost as much. It was impossible to love as much as Julie. Her love for sports evolved to watching the Chicago Bears, the New York Mets and the Gonzaga Bulldogs (a Catholic team who she once picked to win the Rodger Family NCAA March Madness Bracket). She worked as the Village Court Clerk at the Village of Waterloo where she met wonderful people who affirmed her love for the Waterloo community.

She is survived by her children; Tricia (Jay) Austin, Jamie Rodger, Kristopher (Erin) Rodger, Kara (Jon) Roberts and Ashley (Joe) Tapscott; twenty grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister Mary (Mark) Ansley, brothers; Stephen W. (Ruth Shaffer) and Jeffrey M. (Sharon) Jenkins, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death, in 2020, by her husband of 50 years, Robert (Bob) Rodger; a sister Patricia (Ralph) Buffone.

Friends and family are invited to call Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 4-7pm at Mull Funeral Home, 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 4, 2024, 10am in Saint Mary's Church, Waterloo. Burial to follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Waterloo.

Julie requested memorial contributions be directed to St. Francis-St. Stephen School, 17 Elmwood Ave., Geneva, N.Y. 14456.
