A Memorial Service to commemorate Larry's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, (January 20, 2012) at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Diane Walker of the Ovid Federated Church. Kindly consider a donation to the Four Towns Community Center, PO Box 91, Ovid, N.Y. 1421 or, South Seneca Sports Boosters, PO Box 146, Ovid, N.Y. 14521 or the American Diabetes Assoc., 160 Allens Creek Road, Building 160, 1st Floor Rochester, New York 14618 in Larry's memory.
Larry was born on April 20, 1948 in Seneca Falls, the oldest son of Lloyd B. and Maxine (Van Nostrand) Kenyon. He was a 1966 graduate of Ovid Central High School, and he earned his Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1970. During the early 1970's he had worked for the Dole Company in Hawaii, and in admissions at Cornell University. He eventually settled on Sanibel Island, Florida as it's beauty was the closest thing to Hawaii, yet closer to his family and friends on the east coast. His long career in the hospitality industry of Florida, allowed Champ to brush elbows with people of all walks of life, and many conversations led to extensive travels around the country visiting the places he heard about from patrons. It's fair to say that sports were the highlight of Champs everyday world..it' didn't matter the venue, the team or the location..he was instrumental in organizing trips, leagues, tournaments and was always found on the sidelines or in the stands. The highlight of his summers was to travel back home to Ovid, where he spent time at the family cottage on Cayuga Lake and spent time with family and friends. In the most recent years, his stays were often extended, to catch the start of the fall season for his nieces' and nephew's sporting events.
Larry is survived by his parents; a brother, Greg (Mary) Kenyon of Ovid and their children, MacKenzie, Matthew and Allison; and the extended families of his parents and his many friends and colleagues in Florida.

My sincere condolences to the Kenyon family. I was a classmate of Larry's and he was a true leader. He was someone that I look up at and you couldn't meet a nicer guy. I played football and other sports with him and he was a true champ. He will be missed. Again a great guy he was.

My sincere condolences to all who knew Champ and especially his family in Ovid, Mick and Lloyd, Greg and Mary and their wonderful and precious children, MacKenzie, Matt and Ali. My sincere condolences to Larry's family. I also have fond memories of Kenyon's pond, catching crayfish and iceskating. My mother, Ida, is a life-long friend of his mother, Maxine, (Mick) My specific memory of Larry was one of his kindness. Whenever my mom would visit Maxine, and I would tag along, there would always be the offer of "sheets" of bubblegum that were stored outside in the garage in a big barrel...the flat kind of gum that came along with baseball cards, back "in the day".....(most likely he had an extensive collection, knowing his love of sports, as this barrel was chock full) It was a thrill for me to be able to reach in and pull out a handful of gum at Larry's beckoning. Thank you, Larry, for the simple gesture to a young child, but obviously a fond memory. It meant a lot...and I will never forget you because of it. I am still smiling....

My family and I met Larry last March when we rented the place above Champ's in Sanibel. He was a great neighbor and friend during our stay. We were able to meet his parents, Mick and Lloyd and a slew of his wide circle of friends. We were looking forward to seeing him again this March and can't believe that he won't be there to welcome us. He was extremely friendly, outgoing and inclusive. Our sincere condolences to all his family.

Larry was always a special person to all who knew him or knew of him. Growing up around the Kenyon's was something that always seemed special, Larry was a leader and someone that was admired throughout our school days, always kind and considerate of others. Darn sure that these virtues remained with him throughout life, it is possible the last time we spoke was 1970. Fond memories of playing hockey on the Kenyon's pond, having a pickup baseball game in Willard or Ovid, playing little league, high school sports where Larry was always the top choice for a teammate. The Kenyon family will always have a place in my heart! Larry you will be greatly missed.Bet he will have a pickup game ready when we all meet again!

since I met Champ in August of 1969, he was one of the "smilingest" guys I knew...always with a laugh, handshake, story and a hearty welcome. over the years, one of my favorite and most memorable friends on the planet. I am saddened and diminished by his early departure, but have a pretty good idea that we will share Margaritas again somewhere and sometime.
