Lawrence R. Downey

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Lawrence R. Downey, age 80, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

There will be no prior calling hours.

Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services on September 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery. A Celebration of life will follow.

Contributions may be made to the Fresenius Kidney Care, Newark in Lawrence's memory.

Lawrence was born December 6, 1944 in Newark, the son of the late Frederick and Clara Downey. He retired from Kodak after 33 years and later worked for Townline Machine for 11 years. The people Lawrence worked with became more than friends they were family. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved classic cars. His favorite pastime was when he and Joyce would drive the dirt roads in their 52 Pontiac just to get lost together. Family was very important to Lawrence, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce; children Ryan (Val) Downey and April Downey; grandchildren Breanna (Nick), Ryan Jr., Ashlyn, Evan, and Jonathan; great grandchildren Nicole, Nora, and Natalie; siblings James (Nancy) Downey, and Judie Briggs; special nephews Guy and Fred and other nieces and nephews; many dear friends; his feline friend Katie.

Lawrence is predeceased by his parents; brothers Fred, Norman, and Steven; many friends and family.
