Margaret was born on March 5, 1922 in Luke, Md., daughter of John and Mary(Zavodny) Friday. Margaret graduated from Strayer College and started her career as an executive secretary at the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC. She was part of an unprecedented history-making expansion of women in the American workforce who supported the vital war effort in World War II. Without the millions of women who worked in airplane factories and government offices we would not have prevailed. Margaret came from a small paper mill town to work as a "Government Girl" in the executive offices of a cabinet level Federal Government Agency in Washington, DC. She earned her title and her place in the "Greatest Generation" of American history. (https://www.nwhm.org/online-exhibits/partners/12.htm) She married the love of her life, Louis Montemarano, on July 1,1945 and moved from the bustling city to their quiet countryside farm in Clyde, N.Y. There they raised four daughters and watched the family multiply into grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all of their sporting events, concerts and ultimately graduations, weddings and births. Margaret was employed by General Electric for 30 years as a legal and personnel secretary. She has the distinction of being the first woman elected to the Clyde-Savannah Board of Education. She enjoyed golfing, cooking, gardening and reading. Margaret could discuss anything from British history to the most current medical discoveries. She loved to discuss current events and politics and usually won any debate. At 95 years old, she was the most savvy on-line banker and e-mailer around! Her farm house of 69 years was warm and inviting to all who stepped through her door, hosting all holiday and family gatherings.
Margaret is survived by her loving daughters Carol (Ray) Fischette, Diane (Paul) VanBortel, Mary (William) Waller, Beverly Montemarano-Griffin; and her beloved nephew Paul Friday; nine grandchildren Lisa (Joe) Wizeman, Krista (Steve) Drake, Raymond (Jen) Fischette, Jill (Dan) Clemente, Peter (Sonya) VanBortel, Joshua Waller, Lukas (Rachel) Waller, Bess Griffin, Michael Griffin; 11 great-grandchildren Lydia, Samuel, Margaret, Mia, Sylvia, Lila, Daniel, Grace, Violet, Zachary and Juliet. She is also survived by her baby sister, Theresa Palinkas; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and devoted friends, especially Jean and Leo Vetter.
Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Louis; two brothers John and Joseph Friday; and sister, Mary Scarnecchia.

God needed someone to teach the angels. He blessed us by giving us 95 years of her love and example. She lives on in the lives of all those she touched. Margaret, you deserve all that heaven has to offer.

To my Aunt Margaret! One of my mothers favorite poems, which she heard, memorized, and wrote down; If on a quiet sea, toward Heaven we safely sail. With grateful hearts O God, to Thee! We'll own the freezing gale, but, should the surges rise, and rest delay to come, Blest be the tempest, kind the storm, that drives us nearer home.
