MARIA JULIA RASHID

Maria Julia Rashid, 83, of Calexico passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013.
Maria was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born in Nacozari, Sonora Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 where she worked in San Pedro CA in several tuna canneries. Due to health issues, she ended up moving to the Imperial Valley. She worked in downtown Calexico at several retail stores including El Centro Dry Goods, Town Shops, JC Penny, Franklins, and Western Auto.
She met the love of her life George Rashid and they were married for over 50 years. Her civic duties include being president of the Lions Club and donating to several charities. Her sharp wit and wonderful humor will be missed by her family and friends.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, George Rashid; daughter, Lillian Rashid; and parents, Ismael and Pilar Loya.
She is survived by her children; George, Denine, and Nilza.
Rosary and viewing will take place Monday, December 30, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico, CA. Mass will be held at 9 a. m. on Tuesday December 31, 2013 Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Please sign the guest book online at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ivpressonline.
