Richard D. "Rick" Blass Jr.

LODI–Richard D. "Rick" Blass Jr., of 2293 East Seneca Street, died suddenly on Saturday (August 25, 2018).

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday (September 1, 2018) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. The family will then proceed to the front lawn of South Seneca High School, where a prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be held privately at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.

Rick was born on January 11, 1953 in Walden, N.Y. the eldest son of Richard and Joyce Blass. Rick was married to Pamela Westervelt on October 1, 1977 and together they made their home in Lodi, while Rick had a long career at South Seneca Central Schools as a building and grounds assistant. At South Seneca, he was an advisor in the ski club, and his friendly presence at the school will be greatly missed. Rick's love and pride for his family, work and community was a quality that he made part of his everyday life.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Pamela; his daughter, Kristy (Joshua) Moore of Farmington N.Y.; his son; Erik (Lindsay) Blass of Canandaigua; N.Y.; grandchildren twins, Amelia and Breanna Moore, Teagan and Brynn Blass, Kailyn and Ryan D'Agostino; brothers Robert (Robin) Blass of Whitney Point, N.Y. and Bruce Blass of North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Beverly Westervelt of Trumansburg; and several extended family members.

Rick was preceded in death by his sons Jeffrey Alan Blass in 1983 and Nathan Richard Blass in 2002; by his parents; a brother, William Blass; father-in-law, Richard Westervelt, and sister-in-law, Joyce Worrell.
