Thomas Allen Obituary

GENEVA - Thomas Ronald Allen, age 92, of Geneva, passed away on Saturday July 20, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital with family by his side.

Family and friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (July 30) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will be held immediately afterwards at the funeral home. Pastor Preston T. Dinkel will officiate. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.

Tom, the son of the late Malcolm Graham and Carrie Shires Allen, was born on January 22, 1932 in Geneva, where he lived his entire life. This life included being married to the woman he loved, Janice Rizzo Allen, for 63 years, and sharing his days with their three daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In his younger years he worked at the Shines Theatre (now the Smith Opera House) and Lynch's Furniture Store. Following his high school graduation, he began working at the Seneca Army Depot, but then was drafted into the Army. He served as a sergeant in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. When he was discharged, he returned to work as an equipment operator at the Depot, where he worked for 37 years. Following his retirement, he served as a crossing guard for the Geneva City School District, and he and Janice owned and operated Allen's Used Merchandise for over 15 years.

In addition to his work, Tom had many interests. He enjoyed sports, and not only refereed lacrosse but also umpired baseball for 23 years. Throughout his life he was active in the AppleKnockers as a drummer, the VFW Rifle Squad, was a member of the American Legion and served as a deacon at the North Presbyterian Church.

He loved to camp, hunt, play cards (being a member of a euchre club for many years), do puzzles, and was an avid story teller.

As a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Tom will be greatly missed.

Tom is survived by his daughters Kimarie (David) Miller of Geneva, Linda Allen of Geneva, and Beth (Preston) Dinkel of Geneva; grandchildren Noel (Michael) Taylor and Lindsey Frascatore; great-grandchildren Leisel Frascatore and Rhett Frascatore; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was pre-deceased by his wife Janice R. Allen, his parents Malcolm and Carrie Allen, has grandson Jeremiah Miller, his 8 siblings and their spouses Kenneth (Dorothy) Allen, Malcolm (Shirley) Allen, Helen (James) Dougherty, Bertha (Eddie) Dudash, Esther (Eddie) Hayes, Bernice (Jerry) Holland, Virginia (Eddie) Smith, Ruth (Jimmy) Moore, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Allen umpired many of my baseball games and he was the nicest guy out there. He didn´t just ump, he taught. My condolences to Beth and the family.
