Vincent Caraccilo Obituary

SENECA FALLS - Vincent Lewis Caraccilo, 90, lifelong resident of Seneca Falls, passed away on November 18, 2021 at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, with his loving family by his side.

Visitation will be Sunday (TOMORROW) (November 21) from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (November 22) at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 97 W. Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Vincent Caraccilo Memorial Award, c/o Seneca Falls Educational Foundation, PO Box 268, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.

Vincent was born, on November 26th, 1930, to the late Dominic and Teresa (Antonio) Caraccilo, and he was raised in Seneca Falls, N.Y. After graduation from Mynderse Academy in 1948, Vince worked at Sylvania and attended business school, until he entered the U.S. Army in 1951. He proudly served in Germany during the Korean War, and was the recipient of two medals; the National Defense Medal and World War II Medal of German Occupation. Following his honorable discharge, he earned his B.S. and M.S. from SUNY Cortland. He began his teaching career in the West Irondequoit School District as a sixth grade teacher. In 1962, he became a teacher for the Seneca Falls Central School district. He spent over 30 years as a teacher and administrator, and was also a high school athletic coach for baseball, football, and lacrosse. At the time if his retirement, he was Director of Special Services. As an inducted member of the Mynderse Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, he is the only honoree as both a player and a coach. The annual Vincent Caraccilo Award is given to an outstanding senior who exemplifies Mynderse Academy values. Naturally, Vince was an Avid Mynderse Blue Devils fan.

Vince was very active in the community over the years. He was a member of the Rotary Club, a charter member of the Lions Club, Republican Town Committee, the Knights of Columbus, SMS Club, American Legion, Red Cross Meals on Wheels, Seneca County Health Advisory Committee, member of the Board of Directors of Seneca County Seniors, docent at the Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry, St. Anthony's Festival volunteer, Seneca County Retired Teachers Association, Board of Directors Creative Choice Daycare, Seneca County Senior Citizen Board, Seneca County Early Intervention Coordinating Council, Board of Directors Options for Independence, Seneca County Health Advisory Committee, Seneca County Long Term Care Point of Entry Board, Mynderse Academy Alumni Board, Religious Education Committee at St. Patrick's Church. Vince served as chaplain of the local chapter of Korean War Veterans.

Over the years, Vince has received numerous awards and accolades. As a golfer, he scored a hole in one in 2002. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Father Beatini Award. In 2014, Honor Flight selected Vince to travel to Washington DC with other veterans, to celebrate their service, his son Christopher served as his companion. The Seneca Falls Community Service Award was presented to Vince and his wife Jan in 2018.

Vince leaves behind his wife, Janet "Jan" (Pelton) Caraccilo after celebrating 62 years of marriage; his sons, Christopher Pelton of Rochester and Jonathan Vincent of Canandaigua; his brothers, Eugene of Ithaca, and Robert (Marie) of Seneca Falls; sister-in-law Katherine (Kay); and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Anna Peck (Ernest), Domenica Giovannini (Geno), Frank Caraccilo (Mary), and Dominic Caraccilo Junior; and sister-in-law Judith Caraccilo.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Huntington Living Center for their care in his final months.

Jan and all the family. We are so saddened to learn of Vince passing. He was a class gentlemen and always had a smile and a kind word for you when you ran into him. He was a great educator and great coach. His students always come first, and would anything for them or any one who asked him to do something, he was right there to help out. He will be missed greatly by his family and his many, many, many friends.May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
