David Meyer Obituary

David T. Meyer, age 76, of Forest Lake, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, following a recent diagnosis of lung cancer.

David was born on October 3, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Omer and Hope (Connor) Meyer. He grew up in Princeton, where he met the love of his life, Linda Shafer. A proud graduate of the Princeton High School Class of 1966, David enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduation. He served overseas during the Vietnam Conflict as a member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, parachuting into combat zones, and later the 82nd Infantry. Like many of his fellow soldiers, he returned home quietly, carrying his memories and honors with humility, including awards for his bravery and service. Upon his return, David married Linda, and together they built a life and raised their family in Forest Lake. David worked as an over-the-road truck driver before joining Hallberg Marine in 1984, where he began rigging boats, transitioned into sales, and eventually became manager of their storage division. He dedicated more than 40 years to the Hallberg family, remaining active in his work until his passing.

David loved the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and tending to food plots were his passions-especially when shared with his grandchildren, who learned from him the art of patience, skill, and respect for nature. Nothing brought him more pride than being a dad and grandpa. He never missed a sporting event, concert, or ceremony, always there-alongside Linda-to cheer on those he loved most. Known for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and warm spirit, David made friends everywhere he went. He always had a clever remark, a smile, and even a mint to share, making strangers feel like lifelong companions.

David is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Linda; brother, Jim Meyer; and brother-in-law, Herb Carman.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Steven Meyer, Troy (Sarah) Meyer, Kelly (Gewan Himraj) Meyer; grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac, Jasmyn, Amelia, Max, Maleah, Jack, and Hannah; siblings, Darlene (Ted) Rogers, Mike Meyer, Tom Meyer, Kevin Meyer, and Pat Carman; sister-in-law, Betty Meyer; his beloved Aube cousins; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, Minnesota. David and Linda will be laid to rest together at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
