David Daniel Obituary

David E. Daniel, born 1935 in Mercer, TN, passed peacefully on March 11, 2024, at the age of 89, with family by his side. He lived in North Georgia with his wife, Melba, with whom he shared 68 incredible years of marriage and adoration.
David was a man of great faith, a veteran, engineer, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and mentor who lived by the mantra "learn everything you can". He carried this enthusiasm for education from the one-room schoolhouse of his youth, through his completion of two master's degrees in operations research and computer engineering, to a career developing naval training simulators for the military. He and his wife, Melba, were high school sweethearts, married in 1955, and built a life across many corners of the United States. They were blessed with two daughters, Theresa and Carolyn, and two sons, Ronald and James.
David walked through the world with a cup of coffee in one hand and a book in the other. Through every moment of his life, David had a joke on his lips and a wise anecdote or witty story from his past in his back pocket. He was as likely to detail the tall tales spun around the country stores of his youth as he was to recite Psalm 27:10, a verse he memorized for one morning of grade school.
In retirement, Dave loved spending time playing golf, observing nature, and watching westerns with his grandchildren. He was wise, analytical, and tirelessly dedicated to his wife, children, and every member of his family.
A celebration of David's life will be held Thursday, March 21, at First Baptist Church, Cumming. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM for friends and family to support one another and share in his memory, with service to follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church, Cumming.

My prayers to David´s family, especially Melba. We last talked at the turn of the year. Enjoyed our many days working at Windermere GC Cumming and the rounds of golf we played there.

My deepest sympathy to Aunt Melba and my many cousins as you grieve the loss of a wonderful man. Uncle Edward, as I first knew him, and as I got older understood that he preferred Uncle Dave, will forever be in my heart and memories. We spent little time together, but I do remember that he was very funny and always made me feel special when I was around him; Uncle Dave was funny yet intentional with his words and stories. I always thought that in photos of his younger days, he looked a lot like Elvis, hahaha
He and Aunt Melba raised a beautiful family and I am grateful for the memories of time with them and my cousins.
May God richly bless family and friends as you remember and grieve the loss of this remarkable man. I look forward to our heavenly reunion.
love, Cheri Harrop Gideon
