David Woods Obituary

David Louis Woods, 67, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Embracing Hospice of Cumming. David was born in Donora, Pa., Jan. 3, 1943, to Fred and Catherine Woods. After graduation from Bentleyville High School, he went on to attend the Citadel Military College of South Carolina.
Mr. Woods served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam as a reconnaissance pilot, exceeding 1,000 combat missions and was awarded numerous medals including three Distinguished Flying Crosses.
After serving his country, Mr. Woods worked in sales and management for 40 years in aerospace and defense, to include the Boeing Apollo-Saturn V Man on the Moon Program. Woods served as international sales director for the Singer Link Flight Simulation Division in Binghamton, N.Y., and later served as corporate vice president of business development for Signal Technology Inc. in Danvers, Mass.
Mr. Woods was very active in numerous service organizations including American Legion Post 307, VFW Post 9143, and Vietnam Veterans of America, all located in Cumming.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Elaine (Zyskowski) Woods, and his three faithful West Highland White Terriers. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Roseanne Mollen (husband Joseph and nieces Nichole and Christina), Renee Thiman (husband Scott); brother-in-law, Edward Zyskowski (wife Anna); aunt, Edith Weygandt; cousins, Merlyn and Michael Bost, Derek and Mayumi Weygandt and their children Mitchell, Bruce and Zena, and cousins Eric and Betty Utt Weygandt.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 11:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be Monday, Nov. 15, from 4-8 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
