Frances Mize Obituary

Mrs. Frances Davis Mize, age 95, passed away Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, following a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Forsyth whose family had resided in and around Cumming for over 150 years. She graduated from Cumming High School and later from the University of Georgia with both a bachelors and masters degree. While at the University of Georgia, she met her husband, Cecil Shannon Mize. Soon after their marriage, while her husband fought in the European Theater of World War II, Mrs. Mize contributed to the war effort through her participation in the rationing program. She was an educator in the Forsyth County school system for over 30 years, where in her later educational years, she served as the librarian of Cumming Elementary, helping thousands of young students learn how to read.
Mrs. Mize was a charter member of Chapter AB of P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cumming, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and program chairman of the Ruth Reed missions group for many years.
Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Jimmie Davis; sister, Betty Ann Davis; brother, Frank Davis; and her husband of 62 years, Cecil Mize. She is survived by her son, Shannon Mize and his wife Gail (Herring); grandchildren, Alex Mize, Shane Mize and his wife Jamie (Myers); sister-in-law, Ellaine Mize; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews of both the Mize and Davis families.
Services were Tuesday, Dec.30.
In lieu flowers, contributions can be made to the P.E.O. Foundation, designating AB Memorial Scholarship Fund, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312, or a charity of your choice.
