Yvonne (Bonnie) McGarity Williams

Yvonne (Bonnie) McGarity Williams passed away September 26, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents Walker and Eudora Nail McGarity of McDonough, Ga and her husband Joe R. Williams, grandparents John D and Allie Laney McGarity and George W and Eldora Blissitt Nail.
Born in September 1938 the younger of two daughters, she was nicknamed Bonnie by her sister, two years older, and was known by Bonnie her entire life. An honor graduate of Henry Co High School, Class of '56 in McDonough, she excelled in music programs. She attended Georgia State College. She was first employed by the Federal Government at the Atlanta Army Depot and subsequently in various positions at the Center for Disease Control. She retired from CDC as a computer systems analyst. Following her retirement from CDC she was employed by the Carter Presidential Center as an administrative assistant to Dr. William Foege.
Following a three year stint in Souther California, she and her husband returned to Sandy Springs and subsequently moved to Cumming Ga in 1995. She was a member of the Cumming First United Methodist Church.
Bonnie was a former officer of the Northside Hospital-Sandy Springs Auxiliary where she volunteered in the gift shop and was editor of the Auxiliary Newsletter. She was an officer of the Forsyth Co Newcomers Club, now the Ladies League. Time spent with the Wellstone Book Club and Ladies League Mah Jongg friends was very special to her. Her treasured time was reading and writing essays, vignettes and especially poetry sharing with her close friends known as The Write Types. She was a member of the Atlanta Writers Club and won a poetry competition there.
She is survived by her sister, Carole Jacobs of Roswell, nephews Kevin Jacobs and his wife Denise of Cornwall NY, Michael Jacobs ad his wife Stacey of Alpharetta, two great nephews Christopher Jacobs, his wife Caitlin, and Walker Jacobs and one great niece Erin Jacobs.
She is also survived by three step daughters, Sherry Williams of Hudson, NY; Karen Winters (Joe) of Louisville, KY and Laura Lamb of Atlanta, five step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Cumming First United Methodist church at 3:00 PM on October 19th and Bonnie's ashes will be scattered on the beach at Kiawah Island SC, a place dear to her heart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carter Presidential Center, ATTN Donation Processing, 453 Freedom Pkwy, Atlanta GA 30307 or to Cumming First United Methodist PO Box 606, Cumming, GA 30028. Please mark contributions in memory of Yvonne (Bonnie) Williams.

Bonnie will be missed for her thoughtful reviews of our book club selections, she was so insightful. I will miss our talks about our West Point Cadets and now graduates. Rest in Peace Bonnie. I pray her friends and family will find comfort in all their wonderful memories of Bonnie, now and always.
