Rhonda Hamann Obituary

Rhonda (DeFries) Hamann (63) passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, at her home in Fort Morgan. Rhonda was born on October 19, 1958, in Holyoke, Colorado, to Esther (Foster) Holland and Marvin "Frank" DeFries. She was the eldest of four children. Rhonda graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1977. Soon afterward, she married Richard "Rick" Hamann in 1978. They have one son, Rodd, born in 1980. Over the years Rhonda spent many hours immersed in crafts and upholstery. She loved to crochet, knit, etch glass, and make porcelain dolls. She was a self-taught seamstress and became an exceptional upholsterer, applying her skills to thousands of projects from re-upholstering furniture to restoring seats in vintage cars. Rick and Rhonda were a team on a multitude of car restoration projects; Rick worked as the mechanic and body man while Rhonda refurbished the seats with new cushions, fabric, cording, buttons, whatever was needed to return the car seats to their former glory. Throughout their 43-year marriage, Rick and Rhonda were inseparable. The two enjoyed going out for lunch on the weekends, sipping tea at Home Plate, and driving on Thursday nights with their Car Cruisers group. Rhonda especially loved Sunday drives with Rick in her favorite '55 Pontiac convertible. Rhonda easily shared her big heart and infectious laughter with people and animals alike. She was a huge cat lover who never turned away a stray. You would see cats roaming around their property and always one in her lap whenever she sat down. Rhonda's voice and giggles were one of a kind. Anyone who knew her didn't have to see her to know it was Rhonda nearby. Rhonda is survived by her husband, Rick of Fort Morgan; son, Rodd (Angela) Hamann; grandson, Ethan (Arvada, CO); sister, Terri (Jody) Buss (Peetz,CO); and brother, Ron (Kim) DeFries (Roll, AZ). She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Rick D. DeFries. A memorial car cruise get together will be held later next summer in celebration of Rhonda's life well-lived.

My dear friend. So very, very missed. Rhonda was such a ray of sunshine in my life. Always there to listen, on happy days, excited days, sad days and upset days. We had so much fun together. Laughing, singing, (and she had such a beautiful voice) working, and even just talking on the phone. It is just unreal how much I miss her. I miss her beautiful smile, her special way of caring for her friends and family, her kindness and thoughtfullness. Just her whole person! I loved my spe ial friend. Sandra
