Richard Tibbetts

1931 - 2015

Dr. Richard E. Tibbetts, former Fort Morgan dentist, passed away early Tuesday Feb 10th at Colorado Plains Medical Center. Richard was born Nov 28,1931 in Fort Morgan, CO to Ray and Estelle Tibbetts. After graduating from Fort Morgan High School, he attended Monmouth College in Illinois and the University of Denver. He graduated in 1957 from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School. On June 17, 1953 he married Marianne Jones in Grand Junction CO. During 1957 to 1960 he served in the Air Force at Carswell base in Fort Worth, TX as a dentist. He and his wife moved back to Fort Morgan in 1960 to practice dentistry with his father, Dr. Ray Tibbetts, and brother Dr. Donald Tibbetts. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association., and the North Eastern Dental Association. He served on the Fort Morgan School Board for eight years, 4 years as President. He was a lifelong member of Saint Charles Episcopal Church, served on the vestry and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a life-time member of the Elks Club. Richard was a devoted father and grandfather. With everyone he met, Richard shared great kindness and humor. He had many interests including history, sports, reading and was a gourmet cook. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Tibbetts. He leaves his wife Marianne Tibbetts, his daughter Rebecca Birchard (John) of Gig Harbor, WA, his son Garrett Tibbetts (Jennifer) of Arvada, CO and two grand children, Thomas Jeffrey Tibbetts and Nikolai William Tibbetts. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, Feb 14th 2015 at St. Charles Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to St. Charles Episcopal Church or the Fort Morgan Heritage Foundation
