Suni Grooms Obituary

Wednesday, January 13th, 2021, Suni "Sunshine" Marie Grooms and her daughter Atlas "Billy Goat" "Pumpkin" Roe Grooms passed away. Suni was brought into the world on June 9th, 1986 in Fort Morgan, Colorado, by Connie and Larry Grooms. She lived in Brush, Colorado until 2004. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010, with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and went on to become the ClinicalCoordinator of the ICU at Parker Adventist Hospital. On December 8th, 2020, Suni achieved the greatest accomplishment of her life with the birth of a beautiful baby girl, Atlas Roe Grooms. In her spare time, Suni did what she loved, traveling to save lives worldwide with Global Health Initiatives. She was a healer in more ways than one, with spot-on sarcasm and an infectious laugh, she could fill any room with laughter and love. Her compassion for her patients, paired with her sparkling personality and free independent attitude, made her loved by all and made her patients and their families to want to spend time with her outside of her professional life, even including her in their family holidays. She found a way to connect with people no matter where she was and made friends everywhere she went. She was one of those rare people who was completely invested in the moment and had a "Life is short. If you want it, buy it," attitude. She loved to travel and treasured Australia, developing a real connection with the people and places she visited. She was an animal lover, and cherished her two dogs, Gia and Birdie. One of her favorite foods was sushi and when she ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the bread could not have crust. A quote that really captures Suni's essence and the experiences she had is "I never got where I thought I wanted to go, but I always got a great story". Suni always dreamed of being a mother. She realized her dream when her beautiful daughter, Atlas was born who, even at an early age, nurses noted, took after her active and energetic mother. She loved being in her stroller and going on walks, never stopping to take naps during the day. Suni welcomed baby Atlas into this world with love. She had a special outfit with giraffes representing her safari and gifted her daughter with a name that further represented her love of travel. "Atlas" is a name known for being man's guiding hand in travel. "Atlas" also means "bearer of the heavens". Although her time was short, the love we, and most of all Suni, feel for this little girl is unmeasurable, because she gave the one we loved her purpose in life, her dream come true. Atlas will now be with her mother on what most people refer to as the next big adventure and will be by her side as she navigates the next world, with as much strength and love as she did this one. Suni is survived by her parents, Larry and Connie Grooms, her brothers, Jett (Marissa) Grooms and Chase (Kourtney) Grooms, and her sister Rhiannon (Josh) Greene Becker, as well as Jett and Marissa's children, River, Waylon, and June Grooms, Chase and Kourtney's soon to be twin babies, and Josh and Rhiannon's children Sailor, Bodhi, Pilot, and Rocket Greene Becker, and her grandparents, Marvin and Mary Greene. She is survived by her aunts and uncles, Ronnie (Gayle) Greene, Karen Ray, (Bill) Diane Krehmeyer, Steve (Jennifer) Grooms, (Ed) Leslie Basler and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John & Faye Grooms, and her lifelong dog, Monkey. A funeral service will be held on January 27th at 1:00 pm at Platte Valley Baptist Church at 22750 US-34, Fort Morgan, CO 80701, with a reception after the service held for close friends and family. We worked with Suni for 3 months in 2015. She was so impressive as a nurse and was so personally welcoming. We remember knowing when she came on in the morning because you could feel the mood lift on the unit and usually hear laughter.
We knew she would do great things and touch so many lives, and she did. For those who love her and are devastated by the loss, we grieve with you.

Greif is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved. Where there is deep grief there was great love. Suni was such a wonderful person, she always had a way about her that made you feel like you were her best friend. She had such a beautiful soul in life, I can only imagine the things she will do in her after life. Like everyone else said suni was the life of the party and was always shining bright, her name sure fit her personality just right. Senior year in high school was the best, we all got to know each other better. Although we did not keep in touch throughout the years after school, i'll always remember the good times we had and how we became closer before we were soon going to be parting ways into the world of adulthood. My most sincere condolences to Suni and Atlas's family. May God be with you in this tragic time and comfort you and ease your pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you all daily. ❤ Rest easy suni and atlas! On a nice sunny day ill forever think of you!

There are very few fond childhood memories that Suni wasn’t in. Especially in high school. When I think about her, our friendship, and the person I knew her to be she wasn’t just sunshine to me although she very much was that. Her light and energy was so bright, stunning and strong it at times was more of a lightning bolt infused with more life and laughter than you could possibly think one soul could have. Her energy was infectious. She had the ability of making you feel like the most important and loved person in the world. That’s how I remember her and that’s how I remember our friendship. She will be missed by so many but loved forever. RIP with your dear sweet Atlas, Suni.

Always love, Joan

I used to tell people my nickname in high school was Char the Star. She would always tell me, no, it’s Suni the star. I told her it had to rhyme. She was always the life of the party, and naturally brought people together. I’m going to miss that infectious laugh of yours. Fly high, Suni the Star
