ALBERT C. LAUER

ALBERT C. LAUER, LCDR, USN (Retired), 86, of Williamsburg, Va., died on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010. Lieutenant Comman-der Lauer retired after 20 years serving as a naval pilot during World War II. He began a second career spanning 25 years as an engineer with Hughes Aircraft Company. In retirement, he volunteered in various capacities. He was an amateur radio operator for over a quarter century, a bird lover, and a master gardener. He taught several adult education computer courses for the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, and was also a faithful member of the Wednesday group of the Williamsburg Kiwanis. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Norma M. Lauer; son, Steven Karl (Alisa) Lauer of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughter, Joyce Lauer (Stephen) Madison of Jacksonville, N.C.; and two loving granddaughters, Kimberly D. Madison and Michelle R. Madison, both of Jacksonville, N.C. He was preceded in death by his brother, Laurence Lauer; and sister, Mary Frances Lauer. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
