BRENDA MARIE SMITH

BRENDA MARIE SMITH, 62, of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022. Born in Bryan, Ohio, she was a daughter of Larry Poynter of Bryan, Ohio, and the late Linda Poynter. Brenda began her career in the banking industry, worked as a nurse for both Lutheran Hospital and Parkview Physicians Group, and most recently after retiring from nursing she worked at Rise n' Roll. She attended Pathway Community Church and loved supporting her sons as a "hockey mom". Most of all she loved being a grandma and spending time with family and friends. Brenda is survived by her husband, Derrick Smith of Fort Wayne; sons, Tyler (Stacey) Smith and Lucas (Courtney) Smith, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Reese and Ellie; three foster grandchildren; siblings, Terri (Kenny) Leppelmeier of Edgerton, Ohio, Jim Poynter of Seminole, Fla., and Laura Merrill of Clearwater, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Poynter of Largo, Fla. She was preceded in death by four miscarried grandchildren. Service is 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022, at Pathway Community Church, 1010 Carroll Road, with calling one hour prior.
