Eugene Evans Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Evans, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on March 19, 2026, He was born to the late Ishmael and Irene (Roy) Evans on September 2, 1936 in Muncie, IN. He was a proud graduate of North Side High School Class of 1955 and International Business College. Gene was a CPA and CFO throughout his career, he retired after 20 years from the Fort Wayne Komet's Hockey Club. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 55 years. Gene was an avid college basketball fan and enjoyed cycling, tennis, and raquetball.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Val; daughters, Julie (Rick) Diermeier and Joni (Steve Blair) Evans; three grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Mollenkopf; brother, Gary Evans; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alberta and Gene Melcher; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Meta and Luther Dettmer. Funeral service will be on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825). Visitation will also be on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at the funeral home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite Lions Club or Turnstone.
