This is a postscript to my earlier remembrance. I routinely called Bruce almost every year to encourage him to come to our class reunions and/or give me an update on his status for our class newsletter. Concerning the reunions, he always had a Ft. Wayne school (Northrup) function, including golf on occasion, that competed with Culver events. He was truly dedicated to his calling as an educator.

Sorry to say I am late catching up on Bruce's passing. He will be missed by many. Despite my tardiness, as the Alumni President of the Culver Military Class of 1956, I sorrowfully, on its behalf, offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Although Bruce was in the Battery and I in the Infantrty our paths crossed regularly on the company athletic fields and the Cordon Council. We also connected from time to time via phone calls. He was of excellent character and strong Culver stock. I certainly believe his students were treated to the best tutelage available at any level. May he rest in peace.

Mr Oliver was a great Teacher, he cared deeply for his students, which every teacher should attain the respect via his teachings and deeply held belief for human kind, which he epitomized in spades. Loved his humor. I had him for Government class my senior yr. "83... and he had this thing where he put the guys, football players, on all four corners proximity, to where his stool was, when he sat and placed females in-between, told us he needed to do that as his feet stumbled upon the rungs of the stool one time, and he almost fell, but was saved from a fall..and WE all thought it was an obvious way to make the women in the class be placed between a crush, etc.. Anyway when he was getting up, the Football players were the student he placed to save from any fall.... Class act.. Taught is so much and endeared the many students before myself and thereafter for yrs.... Sorry for the Oliver's loss and family, memory eternal. Much loved and enjoyed posts from time to time whenever a student came across him, they posted pictures of running into him, and in the Northrop sight. Love Him!

Sorry for your loss. He was my teacher & Golf Coach @ Northrop High School. I believe the players that were able to play for Coach "O" were given a rare opportunity to have one of the greatest coaches in high school golf. We were able to learn not only the integrity of the game but also arm his players to be not only good golfers, but better human beings. He was influential to many young students lives. Coach & I kept in touch many years after high school. That meant so much to me & I will cherish our conversations. I will miss you Coach. I know you will be passing on your gift to people up in heaven.

I student taught for Bruce and then later worked with him. He was one of the kindest people I have ever known. One of my fondest memories was when he and his wife invited me for a steak dinner at his home. He always gave me useful and practical life advice. We all appreciated how he always kept current and former Northrop staff updated on the lives of others. He will be missed.
