Cheryl Walda Obituary

Cheryl "Cherie" Walda, passed away on August 26, 2025, she was born on April 11, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to John P. and Phyllis Leiendecker. Cherie attended Elmhurst High School, class of 1968. She then went to Purdue University and graduated with a degree in speech and hearing therapy. She retired from Southwest Allen County Schools. She helped many students and was highly thought of by her peers and the student's parents. She loved to garden, watch birds, bees, and enjoyed nature. Her greatest love was for her family. Cherie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ted Walda; a daughter, Sarah (Ryan) Buckingham; two grandsons, Gavin and Henry; and a brother, Mark (Debbie) Leiendecker. The family will be planning a private service. There is a plan for a celebration of life party at a later date. Greenlawn Funeral Home, Fort Wayne is caring for arrangements. Cherie and I met in Mrs. Bailey's first grade class at Anthony Wayne School. I remember her fun-loving personality, and she was always friendly to everyone.
We stayed close through junior high school at Portage, and even as she made new friends she still kept her old ones too.
