It was so nice to read, or reread, all of these memories of Mom. As the years pass I appreciate her vitality, her intellect, her humanity, more and more. She was a self-made woman, although she would disagree and say everything she was, was due to God.

I recall seeing Dorothy had a tattoo during our Peace Corps training in Botswana and thinking, ‘…this women is a free spirit who loves life!' That thought applied equally to both she and Clark. They were enthusiastic about living life creatively – and they didn't postpone it. They were perfect incarnations of ‘how' life should be lived, by contributing of themselves in so many ways, to make other's lives more ample.

I'm remembering Dorothy and Clark as the Mom and Pop of our Peace Corps group in Botswana. Their door was always open and we had great times in their home. I can tell their giving and love went way beyond that. They will be remembered...

I remember her hospitality and friendship in Botswana as well as the wonderful reunions she and Clark threw for the returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Botswana in Angola, IN in 1980 and 1985. We had good times together, and she and Clark are both definitely missed.

Knew her only as Sam's Mom. After reading of Dorothy's many accomplishments, I have no doubt her legacy will continue to inspire for generations. Rest in peace Sam's Mom. . .

I never knew her but it seems she did great work during her life. I am thinking that she probably left a legacy of other leaders that she touched.

Hi Sam, I did not know your mum but I have read the obit and this is certainly one lady I wish that I had known. I am less for not. What a great lady and I'm sure an even greater mother. I am sorry that she is gone but she will certainly be a welcome addition to her new realm. I know you will really miss her. You shall meet again.

I took my Mom to London for a week when she was 94. Upon arrival at Heathrow Airport, an airport employee of African origin, who spoke Swahili, was assigned to wheel my Mom to the taxi curb. They spoke Swahili most of the way. A week later, as we passed through Heathrow again on our way home, the same guy was assigned to wheel her to the security checkpoint, just by coincidence (we think). It was like long lost friends deja vu! That's how my Mom was all of her life: give me five minutes with you and you'll be a lifelong friend.

There are not enough words to describe this wonderful lady. There is not a moment of my growing up at Calvary that I do not remember her involvement. Her boundless energy, sparkling eyes and contagious smile accepted everyone. From Sunday School to youth group; catechism to children's choir...she was there leading and more important....loving all of us. Thank you for guiding and loving us. And thank you Holtzman family for sharing your wonderful mom with us. May God bless and keep you all.

She cultivated gardens and friends wherever she went: from Angola IN to Botswana, from Atlanta GA to the Central African Republic, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Lima Peru.
