DOROTHY WALSH Obituary

DOROTHY WALSH, left this life on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Saint Anne Home, Fort Wayne, surrounded by her family. Born Sept. 21, 1929, on the family farm in rural Loves Park, Ill., she was a daughter of Gust and Edith (Salen) Kindberg. She was active in school and Rural Youth where she made life long friends. Her family moved to Rockford, Ill., where she graduated from East High School in 1947. After graduation, she and her sister, Ella, moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and enjoyed living in the southwest. They moved back to Rockford where she met her future husband, Thomas Walsh, while working at Kropp Steel. They were married on April 18, 1953, the beginning of 60 years of marriage. They raised four children together. Dorothy was active in school activities, Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts, and kids sporting activities. She returned to work for the Rockford School District, at Muldoon and Jefferson High School. After retirement, she and Tom spent winters in Florida, where they volunteered for Give Kids the World. She and Tom moved to Fort Wayne in 2011 to be closer to family. She always had a smile on her face and her home was always open to friends and family. She is survived by her son, Kevin (Beth) Walsh of Fort Wayne; daughters, Kathleen (Melissa) Walsh of Madison, Wis., Ann Walsh of Indianapolis, Ind. and Patricia (Ron) West of Brownsburg, Ind.; grandson, Colin Walsh; granddaughters, Nora and Josephine Van Horn; sister, Ella Pearson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom, in 2013; and brothers, LaVerne and Richard. Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, with a vigil service following, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. A Funeral will follow in Rockford, Ill. I was fortunate to be Dorothy and Tom's next door neighbor for 23 years. They opened their home to me and my family many times over the years; Dorothy was a fantastic cook and a beautiful person. I think about my former neighbors every day--so many great memories. What a wonderful family. God Bless you all, Beth.

Our deep sympathy on the loss of your mother. She was a very friendly and warm person. We have memories of her and Tom taking time to come to our back yard and watch our kids hold the opening AND closing of the kids' "Summer Olympics." Your mom & dad got a big kick out that. We have very nice memories of your parents when we lived on Wisconsin Road. A great neighborhood! We know you will miss your mom very much. God bless you all! Bill, Carla, Krista & Mike Trommer

Dot, what a great picture. That is how I will always remember you, laughing! Thank you for being a great mother to my best friend, and for leaving the beautiful legacy of your children and grandchildren. You will be missed. May their pain and sorrow be replaced with memories of happiness. Rest in Peace. Until we meet again.
